Power Shortage

| (a) Whether Government foresees any
rampant power shortage in future in view of the rapid coverage of the
new villages under Rural Electrification Scheme? |
(a) Yes Sir. On average assessment, a shortfall of power to the tune of about 40MW per day will have to be met after 100% electrification of villages. Since, MeSEB is facing shortage of power against the present demand, definitely there will be shortage after 100% village electrification. | ||
| (b) If answer to (a) above is in the affirmative, the steps being taken by the Government to solve this incoming problem? | (b) Steps already undertaken for execution

9 Kms. Length - H.T. Line, Assam portion of 132KV (D/C) - Sarusajai S/Station (Assam) of 100 MVA 220KV/132KV and Umtru Power Station (Meghalaya). This shall increase MeSEB Power Supply by 120MW. | ||

Inter-connecting 132KV S/C transmission line from Nangalbibra (Meghalaya) to Agia (Assam). | ||

(iii) |
Myntdu Leshka Hydro Electric Power Project Stage I with installed capacity (2x42MW). | ||

Supply of Medicines

(a) Whether it is a fact that there is no supply of medicines in all the PHCs, CHCs and Medical sub-centres? |
(a) No, Sir. |

(b) If the reply to (a) is in the affirmative, how the medical staff are maintaining the patients? |
(b) Does not arise in view of reply to (a) above. |

(c) The process for supply of medicines to the PHCs,
CHCs and Medical sub-centres? |
(c) Sir, medicines are being procured by District Medical & Health Officers for distribution to PHCs, CHCs and SCs as per their requirements. The requisition of medicines by the District Medical & Health Officers submitted to the D.H.S. every quarter and the D.H.S. then accords approval on the basis of requirement and funds available. |

(d) The quantity of Medicines supplied to each PHC,
CHC and Medical sub-centres? |
(d) The quantity of medicines supplied to each PHC, CHC, SC depends on the requirements and numbers of indoor and outdoor patients, etc. Medicines are also kept in stock for coping in emergency cases like epidemics, etc. |

Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan Scheme

| (a) The progress of the Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan Scheme in the State? | (a) Sir, the progress of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in the State is as follows:- | |

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan State Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SSASMAM) has been duly constituted as a Registered Society with the Chief Minister as the President and the Minister, Elementary & Mass Education as the Vice-President of its Governing Body. | |

The Executive Committee has been constituted with the Chief Secretary, Meghalaya as the Chairman and Principal Secretary/Commissioner & Secretary, Education as the Vice Chairman, to administer the affairs of the Scheme. | |

The District Units of the State Mission Authority have also been set up in all the Districts of the State under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of the District concerned. | |
| 4. | Block Resource Centers, Cluster Resource Centers & Village Education Committees have also been set up. | |

Electrocution at Belguri Village

| (a) Whether it is a fact that not less than five wild elephants were electrocuted at Belguri village in West Garo Hills District? | (a) Yes, Sir. Four wild elephants were electrocuted on the 17th and 18th January 2004 at Belguri village, West Garo Hills District. | |
| (b) If the reply to (a) is in the affirmative, the action taken by the Department to fix responsibility? | (b) Sir, since the case was accidental question of fixing responsibility perhaps does not arise. | |
| (c) Whether the site of the electrical H.T. lines was diverted to the other side as demanded by the public? | (c) No, Sir. |

| (d) If not the reason for the delay? |
(d) Study of the actual tracks of wild elephant movements in this entire area is being taken up based on which plan for re-routing (Diversion) of the line through some free route will be taken up jointly by MeSEB and Forest Department. | |
| (e) Whether compensations was demanded from the MeSEB for the lost of lives of the elephants by the Forest Department? | (e) No, Sir. |

Chongpotgre Water Supply Scheme

(c) Restoration work is being taken up and shall be completed within 2 months. |
Electricity Connection

| (a) Whether it is a fact that the water supply schemes of Dakhop, Belguri, Hatagoan and Holaidanga under Phulbari PHE sun-division has already become defunct due to faulty works of the Department? | (a) No, Sir. Dhakop scheme is functioning. Other three scheme are not functioning due to theft of pipes. |

affirmative, the action taken by the PHE Department to re-start the
water supply schemes? |
(b) Ring Well scheme have been provided
for Belguri, Hatagoan areas.
Scheme for providing Ring Wells have been sanctioned for villages covered under Hollaidanga W.S.S. which will be taken up this year. |
