(b) If so, the major anomalies detected and action so far taken to fix responsibility? |
(b) Sir, the M.S. Rao Inquiry Committee among other things examined the issues relating to : |

| 1. | Collusion with spare parts supplier. | ||

Irregularities in procurement of spare parts by MTC. |
||
| 3. |
Irregularities in the procurement of 8 buses order during 1999 by MTC. |
||
|
Following submission of the report by Shri M.S. Rao, explanations were called from defaulting Officers and disciplinary action initiated thereafter. |

(a) Sir, Voluntary Retirement Scheme was given to some employees of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation. |

(b) If so, how many were involved and whether these retired employees have received their retirement benefit? |
(b) 207 (Two hundred & Seven) employees have retired under the Voluntary Scheme and all of them have received their retirement benefits. |

(c) Whether the pruning of staff has helped in
profitability of the Corporation? |
(c) The Scheme has helped in reducing the financial burden of the Corporation. However, it will take some time before the Corporation can become profitable. |

(a) 3 (three) localities of 21 Mawprem Constituency have been declared as slum area. |

(b) If so, which are the specific areas and the
action take so far to improve the area? |
(b) The three localities are Naspatighari, Upper Mawprem and Barapathar. Physical amenities to improve the environment were taken up and completed as per stipulated norms under the Environmental Improvement of Urban Slum Scheme (EIUS). Subsequent, for the improvement of the basis infrastructure and socio-economic condition of the residents of the localities, the centrally assisted and centrally sponsored schemes viz, National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) and Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) respective have been taken up and is continuing in these localities as per the felt need. |

(c) The amount spent for the improvement of physical amenities is Rs.44.50 lakhs approximately. |

setting up of an Electric Crematorium in Shillong? (b) If so, the amount involved of the technology selected? |
(a) & (b) In pursuance to proposal by the State Government, sanction of Rs.409.00 lakhs has been accorded by the Central Government, with the first installment release of Rs.204.50 lakhs, in favour of the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC), a public sector for implementation of the Electric Crematorium project. The salient features of the project include 2 (two) electric furnaces made of high alumina refractory bricks, heating elements capable of reaching temperature varying between 650° degrees to 1110° degrees centigrade, mild steel chimney of 30 metres height with venturi scrubber or wet cyclone, and accessories for pollution control. |

| (c) When will the project be ready for use? |
(c) The above project is expected to be completed in 18 (eighteen) months from now. |

| ((a) Whether all stalls at the Khyndai-Lad Urban Shopping
Complex have been allotted?
(b) If not, the reason thereof? |
(a) & (b). Out of 91 (ninety one) stalls, 41 (forty one) stalls have been allotted to rehabilitate holders of roadside stalls demolished. An Allotment Committee was constituted for allotment of the rest of the stalls. The Committee has submitted its recommendations recently, after screening the applications, which are under consideration of Government. |

| (c) The criteria for allotment of such stalls? |
(c) The 41 (forty one), which have been allotted till date were meant for rehabilitation of the bonafide stall owners whose stalls, were dismantled. For the remaining 50 (fifty) stalls where new allotment is proposed, the criteria fixed inter alia are Educational Qualification, Family Income, Family size, Employment prospects, Area of residence, and Choice of trade of the applicant as also the need to give opportunity to local youth. |
