(a) Yes, Sir. |

(b) How long will the Department take to complete the investigation? |
(b) The case is under re-investigation under the direction of the Hon'ble High Court vide Court Order dt. 26-8-2005. |

Affect of Uranium Mining

(a) Whether the Government had seek the advice of the Central Government or any International Agency on the affect of Uranium if extracted? |
(a) Yes, Sir, Government has sought the report of
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre on the effect of radiation due to Uranium
Mining. |
|
(b) If so, views given by them on Uranium Mining? |
(b) Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in its report has indicated that "At the estimated Dose of 0.02 milli-Sievert per year in Public Domain in the immediate vicinity Attributable to the mining operation, no Undesirable health impact is expected". |

(c) If not, the reason thereof? |
(c) Does not arise in views of reply to 'a' and 'b' above. |

(a) Sir, the average annual consumption of fish in the State is estimated at 11,000 M.T. |

(b) Whether the Government is aware of the fact that the State is solely depending on the supply of fish from outside the State? |
(b) Sir, the State is partially dependent is supply of
fish from outside the State. |

(c) If the reply to (b) above is in the affirmative,
the strategy for the future? |
(c) Sir, the main strategy is increase of the water area for pisciculture, training and technical guidance of fish farmers in modern methods of fish culture, assistance to pisciculture in supply of inputs, etc. |

Disposal of solid waste

(a) Whether the Government is aware that a sizeable part of solid waste finds their way to the streams and drains in Shillong everyday? |
Sir, the State Government has already constructed a Solid Waste disposal plant at Mawiong and has introduced a Solid Waste Collection system involving the Shillong Municipal Board, Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, the local communities and NGOs. |

(b) The steps being taken to arrest this pernicious practice? |
Power Supply

(a) Whether the government is aware of the erratic power supply in Garo Hills for the last two decades? |
(a) Yes, Sir. |
|
(b) If the answer to (a) above is in the affirmative, the reasons attributed to Government's failure to overcome the situation? |
(b) Power supply to the entire Garo Hills is dependent on only one 132 KV line from 132 KV Mawlai S/s in East Khasi Hills to Nangalbibra S/s, which is passing through difficult terrain and as such restoration of power supply takes longer time in case of any failure of the line. |

(c) The strategy Government has adopted or intending to
adopt so far to ensure steady and regular power supply in future? |
(c) (i) Meghalaya State Electricity Board has taken up
with North Eastern Council/DONER for funding a scheme for construction of
alternate 132 KV line to Nangalbibra from Agia S/s of Assam State
Electricity Board in order to ensure steady power supply to Garo Hills
even in case of failure of 132 KV line from Mawlai S/s. |
